EXTRACT FROM BOOK: "Carzou Engraver and Lithographer II"
Here then is the adorable "Giselle", "the tender-hearted heroine who dies for love of a handsome prince and whose ghost comes, bearing no malice, to save him from the terrifying goblins of the forests of romanticized Germany". These were the words of an eminent Parisian critic in raptures over the decor and the costumes for Giselle that Carzou had designed for the Opera House in Paris. The artist has taken up the theme of Giselle once again in this superb piece of work. The beautiful young girl is free and does not belong to the highly evocative countryside that surrounds her. She is lost in her secret thoughts. This is indeed one of Carzou's most delightful compositions.
