French painter, born in Paris on 10 july 1928. Died on october 1999.
He took courses at the Beaux-Arts Academy and at Darbefeuille. Later, he was influenced by the great Realist painters of the nineteenth century, as well as by Gruber. He first exhibition was in 1947, at a bookstore in the Latin Quarter, where he was noticed by Pierre Descargues. In 1948, he received the Prix de la Critique, and Emmanuel David, who became his dealer, was impressed by the rigor of his Miserabilist style and the asceticism of his angular, vertical traits, reduced to their simplest expression.
In 1955, at the gallery Drouant-David, he exhibited his Horreur de la guerre (the horror of war), a denunciation of concentration camps.
Each year from 1955 on, he exhibited thematic series: Le cirque (circus), Jeanne d'Arc (Joan of Arc), Les oiseaux (birds), Le museum, La corrida (bullfight), Les folles (madwomen), and so on. In 1958, when he married Annabel, he had a highly successful retrospective at the gallery Charpentier.
